ARFD's practice areas are Medical Malpractice, Product Liability, Asbestos Litigation, Automobile Product Liability, Health Care Law, Construction Litigation, and Premises Liability.
Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Legal Assistant to support attorneys in a fast-paced medical malpractice litigation environment. This role involves preparing, processing, and managing confidential legal documents. The Legal Assistant should be familiar with legal procedures related to answers, motions, subpoenas, and other court filings, as well as standard administrative responsibilities such as email correspondence, filing, copying, and faxing. This position provides direct administrative support to six attorneys, including Associates and Partners, handling medical malpractice cases.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Edit, format, and process reports and legal documents
- E-file pleadings, including answers, motions, and related court documents
- Assemble documents for court filings and prepare subpoenas for delivery and service by the prep department
- Prepare check requests for invoices, court fees, subpoena fees, and related expenses
- Prepare fax cover sheets and transmit documents with attachments
- Process authorizations and prepare “me too” demands
- Prepare, assemble, and process closing documents
- Uploading documents to various portals, including NYSCEF
Required Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work independently while effectively prioritizing multiple tasks
- Familiarity with legal documents and legal terminology
- Working knowledge of litigation management software (experience with ProLaw is a plus)
- Typing speed of at least 50 wpm with high accuracy
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to collaborate effectively with attorneys and colleagues
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Education and Experience
- Paralegal Certificate is a plus
- Prior experience as a legal assistant or in a legal support role

- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds when needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
