Job Description
York Howell is a well-respected boutique law firm in South Jordan, Utah, and is currently seeking an experienced and highly motivated Paralegal or Legal Assistant to join our team. This position will provide direct support to both a transactional attorney and two litigation attorneys. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of three (3) years of experience in a law firm environment and demonstrate exceptional organizational skills, writing skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines.
As a Paralegal/Legal Assistant, you will assist with a broad range of legal matters, including business transactions, real estate and corporate matters, contract drafting and review, and general case management. This role requires a detail-oriented and organized professional who can thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of professionalism and client service.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as you will regularly interact with clients, attorneys, government agencies, and other third-party professionals.
Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys with transactional matters, including drafting, reviewing, organizing, and managing contracts, business documents, corporate records, and closing documents.
- Assist with entity formations, annual filings, corporate governance records, and business transactions.
- Prepare, review, file, and organize legal documents, correspondence, pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, and other case-related materials.
- Maintain calendars, monitor deadlines, and schedule client meetings.
- Coordinate with clients, opposing counsel, courts, government agencies, title companies, lenders, and other third parties as needed.
- Conduct legal and factual research using online legal research platforms and public records databases.
- Manage and maintain electronic and physical client files in accordance with firm policies and legal standards.
- Draft correspondence and communicate professionally with clients and third parties.
- Maintain a high level of organization while managing multiple matters, deadlines, and priorities.
- Assist with billing, time entry, and other administrative tasks as assigned.
- Perform additional legal and administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a paralegal or legal assistant in a law firm setting.
- Experience supporting attorneys in transactional matters.
- Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with clients, attorneys, courts, and other professionals.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office, legal software, electronic document management systems, and online legal research platforms (e.g., Word, Excel, Adobe, Westlaw, Practical Law, Clio, NetDocuments, or similar systems).
- Experience with court filing systems, including electronic filing procedures, is preferred.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- High level of professionalism, initiative, and a strong work ethic.
