Job Description Summary
The System Engineer III reports to the Manager, Endpoint Delivery & Security in support of MUSC’s academic, research, and healthcare missions. Under general supervision, the System Engineer III possesses a deep technical understanding of configuring, optimizing, and securing Citrix technologies and their underlying server infrastructures. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, supporting, and fully managing a complex enterprise Citrix infrastructure, constructing and maintaining multiple end-to-end environments to facilitate scalable application and virtual desktop delivery to a diverse range of endpoints.
The ideal candidate will proactively identify opportunities for infrastructure improvement, scoping and executing advanced automation to maximize the efficiency and reliability of the endpoint delivery architecture.

Job Description

Under general supervision, the System Engineer III possesses a deep technical understanding of configuring, optimizing, and securing Citrix technologies and their underlying server infrastructures. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, supporting, and fully managing a complex enterprise Citrix infrastructure, constructing and maintaining multiple end-to-end environments to facilitate scalable application and virtual desktop delivery to a diverse range of endpoints.
The ideal candidate will proactively identify opportunities for infrastructure improvement, scoping and executing advanced automation to maximize the efficiency and reliability of the endpoint delivery architecture.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Design & Management: Architect, deploy, and fully manage enterprise Citrix environments utilizing Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD), Citrix Provisioning Services (PVS), Machine Creation Services (MCS), NetScaler (ADC) configuration, and StoreFront Services.
Automation & Optimization: Identify, scope, and execute automation opportunities (such as PowerShell scripting) to streamline image deployments, configuration updates, and routine system administration.
Tier-3 Troubleshooting: Evaluate, diagnose, and resolve complex technical issues across virtual desktop and application delivery layers, ensuring high availability for clinical, academic, and research users.
Project Leadership: Take a lead role in technical projects, participate actively in team and project meetings, and provide strategic input on intelligent solutions to improve operational efficiency.
Change Management & Documentation: Generate comprehensive technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and communications to facilitate seamless system changes and mitigate disruption.
Mentorship & Collaboration: Coach, train, and transfer technical knowledge to engineering peers and support staff, maintaining high professional standards and excellent customer service.
Additional Job Description
Required Education/Skills/Work Experience/Certifications:
Education and Core Experience
- Degree Option: Bachelor’s Degree and five (5) years of directly related experience in enterprise information technology; OR
- High School Option: High school diploma/GED and nine (9) years of experience in enterprise information technology.
Specialized Citrix & Technical Skills
- Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience with the design, implementation, and operational support of enterprise Citrix environments (required).
- Technical Depth: Demonstrated background in resolving complex environment-wide issues, performance tuning, and advanced infrastructure troubleshooting.
- Soft Skills:Strong interpersonal, analytical, and verbal/written communication skills.
Preferred Certifications
- Citrix Certified Associate - Virtualization (CCA-V) or Citrix Certified Professional - Virtualization (CCP-V). (Updated from legacy CCA).
- Citrix Certified Professional - App Delivery and Security (CCP-AppDS) or equivalent NetScaler certification.
