Role Description The Legal Assistant job position in the Litigation and General Counsel departments assists the Attorneys within the Litigation and General Counsel departments in filing/drafting pleadings, docketing court dates, communicating with clients and defendants, and ensuring everything is organized and remains so throughout the life of a file. Additionally, the Legal Assistant will interact with court staff and bill as necessary.
Responsibilities
- Litigation Department
- Draft and electronically file multiple types of pleadings (ex: notice of motion, motion, certificate of service, etc.).
- Maintain organization of Litigation files in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
- Calendar Management
- Track service of process status on filed complaints, update attorneys and clients as necessary.
- Prepare and send out courtesy copies pursuant to standing orders or local court rules.
- Assist with discovery productions and organizations
- Assist in preparation of trial binders for attorneys.
- Track settlement payments and send payments to clients as required.
- Log time for billable tasks.
- General Counsel Department
- Draft and file Annual Report for various clients
- Maintain consistent communication with Shareholders and clients in relation to their corporation’s filing status
- Receive and sort mail from various counties, municipalities, and government jurisdictions.
- Assist with corporate counsel and eviction/collection departments as needed and when possible.
